Email received by Helen from Gigie a sister in the Filipino church:
Dear family,
My
country now has a greater need for relief following the devastation
caused by super typhoon Juan (international name: Megi) with winds 250
miles per hour strong. To date we continue to receive text messages from
our brethren in the north particularly from the provinces of Isabela
and Kalinga, two of the worst affected areas in last week's super
typhoon.
This week my mission group is sending a team to
distribute $2,000-worth relief items mostly food to 100 families in
Isabela (at least 200 miles northeast of Manila). Kalinga, on the other
hand, has at least 150 families, mostly farmers, desperately begging for
relief as well. Their greatest need right now is roofing materials to
repair their homes destroyed by typhoon Juan. If you are able, please
help us help these people. In Isabela alone, we have 28 congregations
whose chapels were completely destroyed. Kalinga has six congregations.
Please
pray for these families as they begin to rebuild their lives and for us
who desire to reach out to them with the love of Jesus.
Your sister and fellow worker,
Gigie
If anyone would like to help the disaster relief effort in the Philippines please talk to me or Helen on Sunday or use the contact us
page
thanks!

November sees the start of 'Operation Sweet Tooth' a simple yet effective way in which we thank the local charities for the hard work they do throughout the year.
How you can help:
1. Next time you go shopping buy a big tin of biscuits/sweets/chocolates
2. We collect them all up over November and then wrap them, add a personal message on the A6 contact card and distribute to local charities as a... 'thank you someone cares' gesture of good will.
3. Simple :)
Most of the supermarkets have them on offer right now so feel free to buy a few tins over the next 4 weeks!
The church at Weston Favell will be working with food bank Northampton over the next few months. Details are still to be finalised but here is a little more info taken from there site:
What is the Food Bank?
We are a group of local people working to combat hidden hunger across the UK. It is estimated that 13 million people in the UK live below the poverty line, including 3 million children. Many struggle to put food on the table, thousands simply go without. Northampton Food Bank is working to alleviate poverty and feed people in crisis in the Northampton area.
Food is donated by individuals, churches and other local groups and banked into the Food Bank. Food is then given out to people in crisis as a result of referrals from local registered care professionals such as Womens Aid, Connexions, the YMCA, the Sunflower Centre and the Citizens Advice Bureau.
Who are we trying to help?
The Food Bank is designed to help individuals and families in crisis by providing free emergency food until the appropriate agencies are in a position to assist.
I'll post again when we have more info for you all :)

We need toothpaste, combs, brushes, scarves, note pads, colouring books and chalk to fill existing boxes or feel free to pick an age group and create your own.
